A Challenge By The Sea
Luckily for me retirement came early. At fifty five I was given the good old golden handshake, and I left the bank with a tidy little pension and a very nice cheque for £15,000!
I don’t take this for granted and I know how lucky I’ve been. With the mortgage paid off years ago, the wife and I had some disposable income for the first time in years. I certainly didn’t take it for granted and I didn’t want to just squander the money I had.
Being only fifty five I was still pretty active and I really fancied a challenge, a project of some kind. Living by the sea in Cornwall I had always wanted to get into sailing, but I’ve always considered it a pursuit for the elite and beyond my means. I realised, though, that with this sort of cash injection I might be able to realise one of my dreams, and restore and sail my own yacht! I looked into it immediately and it turned out that I could get myself on a twenty five foot yacht with a small two berth cabin for only twelve thousand pounds with not too much work to do at all. I made one of the biggest decisions of my life and bought the beauty there and then, on the spot!
I had some work to do. I started to search online and I found a great site where I could source some very well priced boat accessories. This online store had everything I needed to repair my yacht and I set about making my dreams come true.
Fast forward two years and she is sea worthy! I’ve already circumnavigated the majority of the Cornish coast and I plan to go much further afield in the future. This boat has set me free in my retirement, it’s the be best decision I have ever made!
